The MuCEM, Marseille, France

The MuCEM, a symbol of renewal in Marseille inaugurated in the spring of 2013, was designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti takes the performance of contemporary concrete to its limits. The structure, the concrete lace covering the southern and western facades and the 115-metre footbridge connecting the building to the Saint Jean fort are made of ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete (UHPFRC), giving the building its extraordinary light and airy feel.

The building is also noted for its 309 tree-like posts. VINCI Construction France and Freyssinet carried out the structural work on the building.
