The pipeline between the Rubiales oil field (Meta Province) and the town of Monterrey (Casanare Province) was officially opened on 14 September in the presence of Alvaro Uribe Velez, President of Colombia. The 236 km pipeline (diameter: 24 inches) was laid by a consortium made up of Spiecapag and Ismocol, and was handed over on 6 September, four days ahead of schedule and almost one year to the day after the contract was signed (on 8 September 2008). The works included construction of eight flow control stations and four directional drilling operations. A total of almost 2,450 people contributed to the successful completion of this €123 million project (of which €70 million for Spiecapag).
